African Scholarship

Application Deadline Extended - 31 March 2011

Bringing the expertise to Africa to make the EHPBA 2011 a success must have some impact on Africa in general. We have therefore developed an African Scholarship program and have raised funds from a range of sponsors including the South African societies, EHPBA, Donald Gordon Medical Centre and Johnson and Johnson to support this. The marketing and selection process will be driven by PAAS and the logistical support will be provided by Turners Conferences.

We recognize the need to support surgeons and Gastroenterologists at all levels of experience. Some of the African leaders in these fields must be included/ invited. Recipients should be encouraged to submit abstracts to the ASSA/SAGES scientific committee. Those who have abstracts accepted will receive full financial support. All others will receive a significant proportion of their travel, accommodation and registration expenses paid for. Selection panel will consist of the President of ASSA, General Secretary of PAAS and the current President of PAAS. The exact number sponsored will be determined by the money raised for the scholarship.

Applications will be made through the Website and managed by Turners Conferences. Once the scholarships have been awarded, Turners will manage the acceptance process and then through their travel agency organize the travel and accommodation for the recipients. No cash payouts will be made.
