I take this opportunity to welcome you to South Africa. We are less than 4 weeks from the start of the Cape Town 2011 congress, the 9th Congress of the E-AHPBA in association with the ASSA/SAGES congress. We have completed the program and I am very excited about the content of the program and the excellent quality of all those speakers who have agreed to participate. We are very proud that the EHPBA has chosen to include Africa in its name which is now the European-African Hepato Pancreatic Biliary Association. It is a huge privilege for us to host this event which will enhance the practice of HPB medicine in South Africa and Africa in general.

The weather in Cape Town is superb and we believe it will remain so until after our congress. There is so much to see and do in Cape Town that I urge those of you who have not registered to take advantage of the standard registration fee applicable until the 31st March and register for the congress.

We have arranged a number of social events including an accompanying partner program that will give you a taste of this wonderful country and its diversity in people and places to visit and things to do.

The UEMS accredited Pre-congress, Post Graduate Course is of great quality and the range of speakers excellent, a must for Trainees and Junior Specialists. The post congress laparoscopic workshop in Johannesburg will give you the opportunity to experience live cases but also give you an excuse to visit Johannesburg where you can experience a large African City with all its excitement and superb cultural activities.
